Description
Leon Redbone died on 30th. May 2019 at the age of 69. Throughout his life, Leon was a mystery who preferred to reveal very little of himself and his private life to the public. Musically, he was a wanderer between the worlds, processing elements from folk, blues, jazz and Tin Pan Alley music in his songs. Only one week later, on June 6th., his long-time friend and colleague Malcolm "Mac" John Rebennack Jr., better known as Dr. John or "The Night Tripper", also said “Goodbye” to this world.
The re-release of Leon Redbone's Christmas album "Christmas Island" brings us back both amazing musicians for a few wonderful moments. On "Frosty The Snowman" Leon Redbone and Dr. John are grooving and swinging together through this winter tune written by Walter "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson in 1950. For his Christmas album, Leon Redbone chose a pleasant mixture of familiar, well-known and lesser-known Christmas songs, all in the typical Redbone style, relaxed, pleasant, cheerful and a bit festive at the same time. Songs like "That Old Christms Moon" or "There's No Place Like Home For The Holidays" have the necessary crooner charm, "Toyland" and "Kitty Cats's Christmas" spread a chilly holiday feeling. Corny and very christmassy, Leon put his unique stamp on season favourites.
