Description
The vocal and instrumental ensemble Currentes was founded by its artistic director, Jostein Gundersen, in 2006 and has since then performed in a number of European countries. Currentes defines its artistic goals as within the field of historically informed performance, while specializing in polyphonic music from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The ensemble´s interest in new forms of expression has led to collaboration with several composers in Norway. From 2015 to 2018, the ensemble is participating in the artistic research project Wheels within wheels. New approaches to interactions between performers and composers at the University of Bergen, the Grieg Academy – Institute of Music.
Currentes is supported by Arts Council Norway and the City of Bergen, and is co-founder and partner of Bergen Medieval Music Days.
