  • Description

Raw, soulful, intimately moving, Is this body mine? the debut album from British Chilean singer-songwriter Naomi in Blue, is a striking journey into indie guitar-driven power, introspective folk, nueva canción and shades of Americana, all anchored in Naomi's remarkable voice. Drawing on Nick Cave's declarative vocal projections as much as Jeff Buckley's raging voice and haunting guitar, and Angel Olsen's heart-worn lyricism, Is this body mine? is a much-anticipated first longform outing for one of London's most exciting new talents.

Following the release of 2021's debut EP An Experiment and 2024's follow-up It Takes Time, Naomi has honed the clarion call of her songwriting skill through headline shows at the historic 1000-cap el Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris and el Foro del Tejedor in Mexico City, a joint UK headline tour with acclaimed Chilean band Matorral and extensive shows at stalwart London pub stages the Troubadour, Moth Club and the Victoria.

Enlisting her tight-knit band including Matorral drummer Ítalo Arauz, guitarist Annie Needham and bassist Cuco Errázuriz, Naomi and her quartet decamped to Wiltshire in late summer 2025 for a week-long residential recording session with producer Gus White (Maddie Ashman, Minna) and live-tracked the 11 journeying songs on the album. "We'd cook and eat together and it was the most wonderful, wholesome experience and we became a little family," Naomi says. "Each morning I would go for a walk or run in the surrounding fields. It was so quiet, I managed to capture the last of the bright green before the leaves started to turn."

The image of a white stag lingers throughout the record and on the album artwork. After the first day of recording, the band drove to a nearby town that was holding a historic carnival. On the way, passing Wiltshire's rolling hills just as the sun was setting, they saw a white hart in the distance. "There was such beauty around this moment, it felt like it meant something more," Naomi says. "It set the expansive mood for the record to come."

Among the album's highlights are the cacophonic blasts of opening track "All We've Got", which was recorded in one take as Naomi sings yearningly about the need for love and compassion over Needham's twanging guitar and her emphatic foot stomps. While the distorted, full-throated entreaties of "Tattoos" recount a haunting from a former lover through Nick Cave-style vocals, "Magnolia" moves through Joni Mitchell-esque longing to sprawling, expansive guitars that bolster Naomi's wavering, emotional delivery, and "La Cana" features Naomi's first lyrics in Spanish, drawing on the troubadour stylings of Silvana Estrada and the nueva cancion of Violeta Parra as she reflects on a traumatic Chilean history of dictatorship and the ongoing pain and horror experienced by the people of Palestine.

"The album is a collection of songs from the past decade tracing identity, friendship and love as a woman. But there's also darkness and reflections on experiences of violence and that of the world around," Naomi says. "This music sat with me for a long time and the songs were largely solitary. But a week with the band in Gus's barn studio brought it out the way it was meant to – without restraint, its purest expression."

Moving seamlessly between finger-picked folk, explosive rock and singer-songwriting soul searching, Is this body mine? is a powerhouse record from a writer and musician plumbing her cross-cultural roots to create new music that tells enduring, emotive stories. It's an album that confirms Naomi in Blue as a distinct and compelling new voice worth hearing time and time again.
