Description
This is the second CD by Messrs Hallam and Barnhart. Their first album was described by Just Jazz magazine as "Small group Jazz out of the top drawer" and Jazz UK deemed the whole venture an "inspired musical meeting".
Why reed player John Hallam doesn't have a national profile remains a mystery to everyone because he is one of the UK's finest players. Visiting American pianist, Jeff Barnhart, master of many styles but predominantly a stride player is the perfect foil for him. Guitarist Keith Stephen and bassist Bruce Rollo provide perfect swinging support on an interesting selection of tunes given a fresh approach - when did you last hear that old clarinet warhorse 'Petite Fleur' played on the baritone sax?
Booklet note writer, pianist Ralph Laing, describes this release as "a fine album" and thanks John Hallam and Jeff Barnhart for "reminding us just how entertaining jazz can be".
