Hugely under-rated UK reed player joins forces with superb American pianist on a varied set of Swing Era material
When John Hallam teamed up with American pianist, Jeff Barnhart in 2005, Jazz UK described it as an "inspired musical meeting".
Distinguished Jazz pianist, Ralph Laing stated "I can't think of anyone playing today who is a better stride pianist than Jeff Barnhart".
For his part John Hallam combines soaring clarinet, booting tenor sax and a Gerry Mulligan-ish baritone sax. John recently won acclaim for his contribution to a recent album by the award winning reed player, Alan Barnes, where he more than delivered is such auspicious company. He remains one of the UK Jazz world's hidden secrets, but maybe not form much longer.
Both players are extremely popular on the UK festival circuit. There have been very few Jazz duos, but, totally exposed and with material rooted in the Swing Era, Hallam and Barnhart play a varied and totally fresh sounding set with style, charisma and demonstrate that they can hold their own with the best.
