Description
David Murray’s new jazz/world music hybrid features the legendary Taj Mahal for an explosive recording recorded with Gwo-Ka drummers in Guadeloupe.
Once again David Murray, one of the most acclaimed and adventurous jazz musicians working today, has concocted a magical recording in Guadeloupe, following such previous successes as Yon De, Creole and Gwotet. The seven tracks are funky as always, but with a bit more soul. The wide variety of tropical grooves translates into a stronger urge to the dance floor. The listener will also notice the album’s many sung texts, reflecting Murray’s passion for literature. Blues singer Taj Mahal handles the vocals on two tracks, one of them, 'Africa', includes poignant lyrics by the poet Ishmael Reed.
Tracks; Kiama for Obama / Africa / Southern Skies / The Devil Tried To Kill Me / Congo /
