Description
This collection offers an intriguing insight into the world of the French chanson as interpreted by one of the most outstanding and characteristically French chanteuses, Juliette Gréco.
This CD offers a program of songs that are typical of her repertoire; "Si Tu T'Imagines" was one of her earliest songs to become popular. "Sous Le Ciel De Paris" is a perfect example of the French chanson, a swirling waltz complete with the familiar wheeze of the accordion. "La Fourmi" a delightful bit of spoofery about an 18 metre long ant!
Other outstanding interpretations are such popular songs as, "Je Hais Les Dimanches", "Les Feuilles Mortes" which of course is one of the greatest songs ever written, again it is perfect to showcase the outstanding talents of la muse de l'existentialisme as Juliette was nicknamed, owing partly to being a close companion of such luminaries in the movement such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Jean Cocteau.
Not to be withheld by her singing talents, the multi-faceted Gréco also found herself drawn into the drama scene, and played roles in many films, such as, Orpheus, The Sun Also Rises and The Crack in the Mirror.
