  • Description

Recorded over two sessions, this third and remarkable album by German drummer Frederik Villmow, where all the tunes (except one), were laid down in single takes, speaks volumes on the quality of musicianship and togetherness of the players. Comprised of written themes with spaces for improvisation and other tunes that are totally improvised, this is an album that sits well in both straight-ahead and contemporary jazz.

"My aim with this recording was to trust the unknown and playing together with an open mind and open ears. Except for "Eternity" all tunes on this album are first takes. You never know when magic happens when making music, but there are plenty of moments from this recording session that, to me, were quite magical and that were unique in the way everything came together in the moment." - FREDERIK VILLMOW, October 2022

    Review quotes:

"Although Villmow is an excellent drummer by all standards, his music goes far beyond just drumming skills, presenting a refined ensemble sound and complex flow of ideas. He is definitely in the center of the performances throughout, but his drumming is certainly not just a showoff of his abilities, but the driving force of the ensemble". ADAM BARUCH ISR/PL, May 2023

"I would go so far to say that this is one of the best album opening tracks I have heard this year." SIMPLYJAZZTALK UK, May 2023
