Description
Frederik Villmow is a German jazz drummer, composer and bandleader who has a masters degree from the prestigious Jazzlinja NTNU in Trondheim. This is his second release as leader, the first being his 2019 quartet album, 'Live in Copenhagen', which picked up rave reviews from the international press, including UK Vibe.
A well-travelled musician, concert tours have taken him across mainland Europe, the UK and Ireland, and Middle East. Among the leaders he has toured with are Alan Skidmore, Gabriel Perez SoundTrip Orchestra feat. Chris Potter.
The trio's pianist Vigleik Storaas will be immediately recognised by fans as the pianist on John Surman's ECM release 'Nordic Quartet' with Karin Krog and Terje Rypdal. Bjorn Marius Hegge will be recognised as the bass player on the Kjetil Mulelid Trio album 'Not Nearly Enough To Buy A House' on the Rune Grammofon label.
"The piano trio is a classic format in jazz history and opens up for different methods of approach. The format leaves plenty of space for the individual musicians and the goal was to complement each other whilst spontaneously creating music together as one organism. My aim was to write tunes that would provide a basis for different moods and atmospheres, leaving enough space for the individuals to interpret them in their own way." Vigleik Storaas
Personnel: Vigleik Storaas (piano), Bjorn Marius Hegge (bass), Frederik Villmow (drums)
