The Brill Building is an 11-story Art Deco office block, at 1619 Broadway, Manhattan, where the songwriters who shaped 1950s and 60s rock & roll, R&B and pop music wrote, demoed and published their songs.
The 'First Team' comprised seven songwriting duos: Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman, Neil Sedaka & Howard Greenfield, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, and Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich.
Other significant Brill Building songwriters included Ben Raleigh, Jack Keller, Bob Hilliard, Phil Spector, Bert Berns, Hank Hunter, Helen Miller, Tony Powers, Larry Kolber, Tommy Boyce, Mark Barkan, Bobby Darin, and others.
