Fourteen year old Laurie London, from Bethnal Green, was one of the very few British artists to top the US charts in the pre-Beatles era. This is the first compilation to feature the Very Best of both Laurie's English and German language records, the latter, of course, being almost impossible to find elsewhere.
Still only thirteen years of age when he recorded "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" in September 1957, it made the UK Top 10, selling 300,000 copies, and reached #1 in the US in April 1958. It subsequently rolled out to become a worldwide hit, topping the charts in Ireland, Australia and the Far East, and making the Top 10s throughout Europe, selling around three million copies in total.
Laurie became a huge star in the UK, perpetually on TV and radio, and appearing in the 6.5 Special movie. He went on to become an even bigger success in West Germany, where he appeared in several teen movies and recorded hits like "Pretty Eyed Baby" (a duet with Danish singer Gitte) and the German language "Bum-Ladda-Bum-Bum".
He subsequently recorded hugely successful German language covers of Brian Hyland's "Polkadot Bikini", The Crests' "Step By Step", Bobby Rydell's "Sway" and Billy 'Crash' Craddock's "Heavenly Love", none of which were released in the UK, however, they are all included here.
