Description
Although he would go on to enjoy his biggest commercial successes in the 1970s, notably with souped-up revivals of Tamla-Motown material, Donnie Elbert's recording career began back in the 1950s. Indeed, he enjoyed a USA hit with his very first record, 'What Can I Do?' in 1957, which made both the Pop and R&B charts.
He subsequently tasted regional success with releases like 'Have I Sinned?', 'Will You Ever Be Mine', 'Half As Old', 'Baby Cakes', etc.
This set reissues all his solo singles between 1957-62, across a variety of labels, the first time that these sides have been thus compiled. This is a seriously impressive recorded legacy, albeit much of it largely forgotten since it was first released.
We probably don't need to emphasise how rare and collectable most of these sides are, many of which have never previously appeared on CD.
