Description
"The contrast of the country and city is one of the major forms in which we become conscious of a central part of our experience and of the crises of our society" - Raymond Williams
India Electric Company will present three releases in 2017 exploring contrasting themes between the country and the city using traditional instruments in contemporary styles. EC1M focuses in on urban alienation and tries to capture the darker impact on human emotions incorporating a more industrial production.
Referencing traditional songs, tunes and stories including The Green Gowned Lass, Farewell He and The King of Rome, EC1M is built on prepared piano, heavily processed accordions, industrial percussion and ostinato guitars combined in a way that references The Gloaming, UK bass music and Dawn of Midi.
Recorded at the National Trust's Sutton House in Hackney and the iconic Farmiloe building in central London (where they were living as Property Guardians in 2016), there is a unique acoustic imprinted on the songs which fuses with the vocals recorded in an empty, half built Devonshire home. This is an unyielding search for musical continuity within the framework of their urban folk concept.
