Description
'Reise' is fiddle player Gjermund Larsen's third album as leader and a continuation of the moods and themes explored on 'Ankomst' and 'Aurum', both of which were highly acclaimed and award nominated albums. Featuring 10 new compositions by Gjermund, the album moves between gentle ballads and mid-tempo dance themes. Inspired by Nordic folk and Celtic traditions of Ireland and Scotland, the music is distinctive in style and diverse in its use of different genres, including chamber jazz, bluegrass, baroque and contemporary music.
Gjermund Larsen was the youngest ever Category A winner in Norway's National Contest for Traditional Music in 2002, and in 2005 he received the King's Trophy Award for his fiddle playing. He often performs as a soloist with choirs and orchestras, and has composed a number of commissioned works for Norwegian festivals. He regularly plays with the Christian Wallumrød Ensemble and Frode Haltli, and his close collaborations with The Trondheim Soloists resulted in a Grammy nomination for their record, 'In Folk Style'.
Personnel: Gjermund Larsen (fiddle), Andreas Utnem (grand piano, harmonium), Sondre Meisfjord (double bass)
