  • Description

The Final Tour brings together two of the most influential figures in jazz history, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, captured live at Copenhagen's Tivolis Koncertsal on March 24, 1960. Recorded during their celebrated European tour, this remarkable concert documents the closing phase of a partnership that had already produced some of the defining recordings of modern jazz.

The outstanding quintet is completed by Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Jimmy Cobb (drums). At the heart of the session is the striking contrast between Davis' lyrical economy and Coltrane's powerful, increasingly exploratory improvisations, supported by a rhythm section of exceptional flexibility and swing. Inspired versions of "So What", "On Green Dolphin Street" and "All Blues" provide ample space for individual expression and spontaneous dialogue.

On stage, these familiar compositions become starting points for fresh exploration. The open structures of "So What" and "All Blues" allow the quintet to move naturally between restraint and intensity, while "On Green Dolphin Street" showcases the group's rhythmic vitality and instinctive interaction. Throughout the concert, the five musicians continually reshape the material, giving each piece an immediacy and character of its own.

Both historically significant and compelling to hear, The Final Tour captures an extraordinary ensemble during the final period shared by Davis and Coltrane. The Copenhagen concert preserves the intensity and creativity of a unique collaboration, offering a vivid portrait of two artists whose years together left an enduring mark on the history of jazz.
