Description
Music conducive to the contemplation of the period of Lent and Holy Week in the Eastern Orthodox Church. However, the noble sound of an a cappella choir combined with the simplicity of the sound matter can be a comfort to all faiths, at any time. The VARSLAVIA Choir, despite only a few years of stage presence, has been successful at both national and international Orthodox Church music festivals. The album presents a collection of songs and psalms by Polish, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian composers active both in the 19th and 20th centuries and in modern times.
The texts are presented in the Polish and English versions; there is also a detailed description of the Orthodox liturgical ritual. In addition to the obvious spiritual message that the compositions featured on the album convey, their value is also expressed through the musical layer. It is an overview of Orthodox music, which, although approached differently by various artists, has retained its characteristic features over the centuries.
