Description
The second volume of the first GlobeStyle field trip, this time featuring the 'pop' music of this beautiful island gets an airing on CD. In 1985 GlobeStyle label supremos Ben & Roger ventured forth into unchartered territory armed only with a few mikes, a digital tape recorder, two wings (they were on the airplane belonging to Air Mad - who in their right minds would fly an airline called Air Mad!?!) and many prayers. Bit by bit they weeded out the groups that appear on this CD, all from around the Antanarivo area. Most of the recordings were done in a marathon 15 hour session at the minimal Studio Fa on the last day of the trip and what may be missing in fidelity is more than made up for by the enthusiasm and the performances of the musicians. Since this seminal trip, several other companies have been to Madagascar to record, and one of the bands, Rossy have cut several albums in Germany and toured extensively.
