Nive Nielsen & The Deer Children will release My Mother's Name, their first album in ten years. Following Nive Sings (2012) and Feet First (2015), the Nuuk-born Greenlandic-Inuit musician returns with a multi-layered album that moves between modern folk, singer-songwriting and subtle electronic textures. At its heart are questions of identity, socialisation and home. The title *My Mother's Name* refers to the self as something we shape through our family and heritage. Nive Nielsen, who has herself been working for years across Greenland, Europe, music, film and international art projects, weaves personal perspectives into a broader social context. Recorded with her band as well as with longtime collaborator John Parish in Denmark, Belgiumand Bristol, the album weaves organically crafted, acoustic songwriting with subtle electronic interludes and a rich instrumentation that includes not only violins, flutes and guitars but also traditional Greenlandic drums. Nive Nielsen's voice relies less on grand gestures than on nuances. The result is a warm, richly detailed soundscape that defies folkloric categorisation. My Mother's Name is accessible yet multi-layered.
