Description
New York based pianist George Colligan is one of the most original and compelling jazz artists of his generation. Highly in demand as a sideman, he's played and recorded with artists such as Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Buster Williams and Jack DeJohnette. 'The Facts' is Colligan's tenth CD as leader for SteepleChase and sees him at the head of a quartet featuring impressive alto saxophonist Jaleel Shaw.
Also featured on the album, and an integral part of the music, is experienced drummer Donald Edwards and "first call" bassist Boris Kozlov, best known as a sometime Musical Director of The Mingus Big Band (where Colligan and Shaw also served notice of their talents). For all of the pianists work with others it's his undoubted talents as a composer that stands out on 'The Facts' - seven of his own compositions are included together with his take on Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out".
