Denmark's finest soul outfit D/troit are ready with their long-awaited sophomore album Heavy set for release on our label Crunchy Frog on Friday 3 June 2022! True to the album's title, the sound is dominated by a weightier, hip-hop-inspired feel served with a sure- and light-footed twist of soul and funk to themes of hope, love and the collective challenges we face, both personal and universal. It's grittier and sounds both classic and modern with mixing handled by a group of ear-wizards: Wayne Gordon (Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse), Simon Guzm?n (Pharrell Wiliams, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings), Jesper Reginal (Junior Senior, PowerSolo) and newcomer Christian Ki (Ki!, Ki/West), who was instrumental in the unique, heavy drum sound of the new album. D/troit's take on the heritage from classic 1960's soul and funk has proved to be sync gold, landing numerous licenses across the globe on their two initial releases, Do the Right Thing (EP, 2015) and Soul Sound System (album, 2017). And it's our firm belief that Heavy will prove to be a pot at the end of the rainbow as well. And believe it or not, to promote the album we actually got a quote from the one and only Bootsy Collins of Parliament-Funkadelic and James Brown-fame: "The sound is electric & reminds me of when our band The House Guests had found the pulse of the people.
