The album Where we come from... Where we’re going is the 3rd in a
trilogy of Burton Greene’s arrangements and extended compositions
based on little known, mainly Jewish works of writers and composers
active since before World War II until the present time.
These works obviously deserve of greater hearing and recognition for the fine works that they are. The earlier albums of the trilogy are Le Dor Va Dor (BV Haast CD 0700), and Ancient & Newer Roots (BV Haast CD 1205). As an American of Russian and Roumanian Jewish ancestry it has long occurred to Burton Greene that so many people get lost in a labyrinth of tensions and artificial life styles, and especiallly in modern cyberspace cities. Hence the questions: ‘Who are we really? What are our true values? What do we stand for?’ His spiritual teacher Swami Satchidananda used to say ‘We have to Under-Stand, we have to learn to stand under where we’re standing!’ Which of course is linked to ‘If you don’t know where you come from, then how do you know where you’re going?’ Hence the title of this album..
