    Known as the "Rainha do Fado" ("Queen of Fado"), Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999) was instrumental in popularising fado (Portugal's folk music) worldwide and travelled internationally throughout her career. She became one of the most important figures during the genre's revival in the twentieth
    century and was a leading female fadista during her extended recording and stage career.

    This collection includes 24 of her greatest hits, including such perennial classics as "Uma Casa Portuguesa", "Ai Mouraria", and the unforgettable "Coimbra", also known as "April in Portugal".

    Amália Rodrigues was the unrivalled queen of Portuguese fado. She not only popularized fado throughout South America, she reinvented it; singing material that moved far beyond the traditional tales of failed romance to explore instead the deepest crises of the soul and spirit.
