  • Description

    Am lia
Rodrigues is one of the most recognized and cherished voices in the world

    In her
intensity, she embodies the culture and memory of a people that does not turn
its back on the fight, that is proud of its roots and that loves passionately
and vertiginously. Celebrated and remembered by the portuguese communities,
heard even by those who do not understand the words, she is still today an
unparalleled artist and appreciated for her versatility.

    Am lia sang
the poets, elevated the portuguese language and left us an unrepeatable legacy.
She joined her voice to the fight for freedom and won her place as a Woman.

    In the
twentieth century she traveled the world, tore up social conventions and
asserted herself as a universal interpreter. She transformed Fado, gave herself
to Jazz and Folklore, sang in Italian, Spanish, French and English.

    In her 50
years of career, she stepped on the most famous stages in the world. From
Olympia in Paris to Carnegie Hall in New York, from Sankei Hall in Tokyo to
Canec £o in Rio de Janeiro. She performed in Australia, Mexico, Lebanon, and
many other geographies so far away from our own Europe. But her home was in
Portugal, the streets of her beloved Lisbon, the affection of her people.

    She
interpreted, wrote, and created in harmonious collaboration with her composers,
musicians, and sound technicians some of the best national portuguese songs.
The studio sessions were magical, prodigious moments of this geniality.

    Even on her
birthday Amalia was unique. She chose, for herself, the 1st of July to
celebrate her arrival in the world, even tough her birth certificate states
that it was on July 23, 1920.

    We
celebrate Am lia in a collection that brings together the most beautiful themes
to which the diva gave her brilliance, her sophistication, her passion, and her
love. A great and extraordinary journey through the discography of Am lia
    Rodrigues.
