  • Description

Written back in 1966 by Smokey Robinson, the Motown hit 'Get Ready' saw global success through The Temptations and has withstood the test of time for over half a century. Now in 2019, production guru Prince Fatty has stepped up to the plate with a who's who of reggae and dancehall royalty to give the record a dub rework. Limited edition 7" vinyl (750 copies worldwide).

'Get Ready' features Big Youth, George Dekker and captures the soulful and infectious grooves of the original, whilst also delving into a deep, easy-listening, rock-steady masterclass. The effortless falsetto of George Dekker makes for one of the smoothest hooks you'll hear all year, not to mention the ever-reliable Deejay toasting of Big Youth and Horseman's explosive percussive work.

On producing the track, Prince Fatty added: 'Get ready' is a masterpiece of the time and for me, it's perfection squeezed into 2 minutes, 45 seconds - having a vocalist like David Ruffin on backing vocals just tops the bill. If you follow Prince Fatty and the Horseman, you will know we love the rockers style of the late 70s. I wanted our version to have the Disco Mix feeling so I enlisted George Dekker from the Pioneers for the lead vocal. George's range and falsetto are on the same level as Eddie Kendrick and Melvin Franklin which is no easy task, and I think he has delivered a great vocal. Balanced by the infamous Big Youth's toasting "I have some children, but we can have some more!" Love is the message for those lucky enough to find it. People, its best you Get Ready!"

Prince Fatty has worked with everyone from Lily Allen, Hollie Cook, Graham Coxon (Blur), Mungo's HiFi, The Skints, Gregory Isaacs and many more. After moving from Brighton to live in Los Angeles and Thailand, he's taken in different sounds from across the globe and has built up a reputation of being one of the go-to producers of recent times.
