As a member of the celebrated Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting team, the legendary Eddie Holland composed a dozen #1 soul hits for Berry Gordy's Motown Empire. He co-wrote such memorable smashes as "Stop in the Name of Love," "I Can't Help Myself," "You Can't Hurry Love" and "How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved by You)" for artists like The Supremes, The Four Tops and Marvin Gaye. Despite achieving fame and fortune as a lyricist and producer, Eddie began his career as a singer (his exciting vocal sound was reminiscent of Jackie Wilson).
This quintessential release presents Holland's magnificent first and only LP, the self-titled Eddie Holland, originally released by Motown in 1962 and long unavailable on any format.It's one of the finest lost treasures of early Detroit soul, and gives ample proof of Eddie's formidable skills as a performer.
In addition to the original album, this remastered collector's item also contains 15 bonus tracks, including a bunch of hard-to-find sides from the same period, which were issued on different labels like Mercury, United Artists, Tamla and, of course, Motown.
