Description
Tripataka's latest double album release, Gliese 667C, displays masterful improvisations and rhythmically-charged cyclic forms, creating a sound world of possibilities. Driven by a deep love of ancient rhythmic traditions, the trio explore musical territories beyond geographic borders. The Melbourne-based group features bass trombonist Adrian Sherriff, electric bass guitarist Jonathan Dimond and drummer Adam King with guests vibraphonist Daryl Pratt and didgeridoo artist Amos Roach.
Gliese 667C is a journey through different musical territories - not just created by the visitations of the musicians as they consider such traditions as Bali, West Africa, India and Morocco - but musical territories that are innovative and beyond geographic borders. These are fresh and new, and the musicians' excitement is palpable as the listener accompanies their pathfinding discoveries. Like its cosmic namesake, this album forges into a place strangely new yet tantalisingly habitable. The album demonstrates a significant move towards long-form composition and a deepening of the shared artistic voice of the core trio since the band's debut album "Yakiya" (Tall Poppies, 2017).
