Description
The recorded on the CD Missa ex D by Józef Zeidler (approx. 1744-1806) was written for four vocal voices (SATB) and instruments – two violins, two trumpets, and organs. Zeidler displays in it a very solid compositional workshop, which abounds in a variety of employed means. The Gniezno music collection includes two compositions by Antoni Habel (1760-1831), including one symphony. Symphonia [D] was written for two violins, viola, two flutes, two horns, and basso. In the then Commonwealth, the main role in popularising the symphonies was played by church centres and ensembles operating within them. They served as setting of church service. It was therefore a type of a local church symphony, which, however, drew on European standards. Habel’s Symphony is an example of this. The MUSICA SACROMONTANA Festival serves the continuation of the intentions of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, who wanted to evangelise through the broadly understood propagation of culture. It is thanks to their efforts that already in the 17th century an outstanding ensemble was created there, which resulted in the greatest composers coming to Gosty?.
