Suriya Recordings' second release is a stunning collection of original Indian composition channelled through Youth's ambient experimentalism, honouring of the aims and ambitions of trance, world music and dub.
By extending the possibilities of Indian instrumentation through an illuminating use of drone, keyboards, electronics, flute, spoken word and unique aural treatments, this album creates an affecting and enduring experience.
The players draw from Suriya Recordings' growing stable of artists including such musical luminaries as Youth on bass, Clem Alford on sitar, Fabrice De Graef on bansuri, Sachin Khetani and Dheeraj Sahai-Mishra on tabla, Kiranpal Singh on santoor, Kakoli Shankar Mishra on spoken bols/dance, Jackson Scott on guitar, and Divyanand Caird on Saraswati veena, Maria Gracia, Anjan Saha, Vamshikrishna Vishnudas, and Marcia Mello on vocals and spoken word, Luke Fitzpatrick, Michael Rendall and Jamie Grashion with Youth on production.
The eleven exotically titled compositions transform and transport the listener into captivating musical potencies, allowing for the collective of a new consciousness. They bring one nation towards a host of others, revealing how the wanting heart finds unity. At a troubled time here we can join and escape.
