Description
With the new album Passport selling well heres the first 2 albums now at a new lower price. Passion play is a sensuous ten song musing upon the highs and lows of life: namely love, death, drugs, alcohol, sex, ambition and highwaymen. Katy conjures a magical world of cruising sexual predators, interstellar relationships, religious junkies and erotic vampires. Style wise passion play retains the alt-folk mood of debut album Screwing lies , whilst introducing electronic elements due to Katy s growing interest in the dance scene. The work of 4-hero, A guy called Gerald, Bjork and Micatone have been particcularly inspirational. The songs capture moments from forgotten times and places, making the everyday seem extraordinary and possess a quintessentially english character.
Outstanding tracks include the Kruder & Dorfmeister influenced Paper castle featuring Olly Parfitt of the Herbaliser on wurlitzer, performance poet John Hegley as the infamous highwayman on Turpin, and Sharkesville with Calina Mare, violinist with the Tindersticks. Brass, double bass, cello and violin add depth and light to arrangements. The moog brings a touch of Jean-Jacques Perry retro feel to the dance-floor friendly Borderline. Passion play is peopled with a menagerie of hot-headed, cold-blooded and starry-eyed characters obsessed with fulfilling their desires. Not unlike the real world, but with a touch more magic. Katy Carr is committed to bringing trills and folk thrills into the 21st century.
