  • Description

'It's Just A Short Walk!' is a limited edition EP of cover songs performed Say Sue Me on a special one-sided transparent 12" vinyl, and released by Damnably Records for RSD 2018. Friends since 5th grade Jae Young (Bass) and Kim Byungkyu (guitar) met drummer Kang Semin at high school and played in bands together until the winter of 2012, when one day they were drinking tea and beer at a tea shop in Nampo-dong, and Sumi arrived. They liked her speaking voice and immediately offered her a spot as the vocalist in a new band that would become Say Sue Me. Sumi Choi turned out to be a natural at songwriting. Semin sadly suffered trauma from a fall so new drummer Chang Won stands in while they await Semin's recovery. In their own words: "We had always thought about a cover album, so we agreed to make a small album aimed for release on Record Store Day 2018. In December 2017, we started the new project with a light and excited heart, as soon as we finished recording our second album. At first, we thought about Yo La Tengo or Pavement which are our all time favorites but we decided to take the music of legendary bands from earlier times to cover in our style." The first song the band picked was Velvet Underground's 'Beginning To See The Light' and although there were initial concerns about how they would tackle the arrangements, the overall faschination with the song (particularly the lyrics) led to a Pavement esque version. Looking to the next decade, the next song chosen was The Beach Boys' version of 'Do You Wanna Dance', a song which is surely the best way to express Say Sue Me's style and love of surf. 'Rockaway Beach' by The Ramones was next, a band they had always admired both in style and sound, using their own spin to create that wonderful feeling only The Ramones can give you! Choosing the final song was harder and they came up with Blondie by chance deciding to cover their song 'Dreaming' with a heavy dose of Jesus and Marychain thrown in for good measure.
