At the time of writing his First Symphony Fesca was court music director in Kassel and indeed a very promising talent. The lung ailment that manifested itself early in his career, however, gave him only a dramatically short time to complete his life's work: he died at the young age of thirty-seven. CPO released Fesca's 'Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3' some years ago, and the importance of this discovery has met with broad recognition. With this month's release featuring his first symphony and three overtures his symphonic oeuvre is now complete. Once again Fesca captivates the listener with his unique blend of vibrant energy and charming elegance, of absolutely original thematic inventions and virtuoso treatment of the orchestra.
