Description
Hardly any other Christian festival is as rich in musical traditions as Christmas. The programme 'Of a Rose We Sing' takes the audience into the fascinating world of English Christmas carols, spanning the 12th to the 17th centuries. Through song and a variety of flute instruments, the concert tells the story of the nativity scene, Mary and the miracle of Christmas in three scenes. The works bring to life the origins of the carols - those songs that developed from medieval folk traditions and, over the centuries, became an integral part of the Christmas season. The focus is on the arrival at the nativity scene, Mary's special role as heavenly queen and human mother, and the mysterious miracle of the Incarnation. The music showcases the full diversity of Christmas carols: from heartfelt and contemplative melodies to songs brimming with joy, fellowship and festive exuberance. 'Of a Rose We Sing' invites you to rediscover Christmas from a historical perspective - as a world of sound blending popular piety, medieval tradition and spiritual depth. An atmospheric concert evening full of stories, colours and Christmas music that has lost none of its radiance to this day. Scottish-Maltese soprano Carine Tinney has established herself as a compelling presence on the international stage, with a repertoire spanning oratorio, early music, lieder, and opera. She is joined by the ensemble feuervogel on this new recording.
