Description
Out of the dark days of the Covid Pandemic a remarkable project emerged, bringing together the master of the low-strings sound world, British composer Gavin Bryars, and a group of the finest gut-string chamber music practitioners: America's Guy Fishman (cello) and Renee Hemsing (viola), and the renowned UK-based Consone Quartet.
A commission to extend the repertoire of the string sextet into the 21st century, but with period instruments, was irresistible to Bryars, and out of the collaboration came "The Bridges of Konigsberg", a 25 minute through-composed meditation on the nature of chamber music itself, as two 'outsiders' are gradually incorporated into the established social and musical framework of an existing string quartet. Following sold-out performances around the UK and a Radio 3 broadcast, "The Bridges of Konigsberg" was recorded in August 2025 at Syde Manor in Gloucestershire, where it was premiered in 2023, and is released on GB Records with its original line-up.
