Description
International ensemble Classico Latino are proud to present their new album 'Salsa Classics' featuring salsa legend Julio Ernesto Estrada aka Fruko and virtuoso violinist Omar Puente. Classico Latino blend the passion and vitality of authentic Latin music with the smooth sound and virtuosity of the classical tradition. While many fusion projects do not quite capture the true essence of each discipline, Classico Latino have adopted an approach that is both stylish and nuanced in equal measure, striking the perfect balance between the two genres to create some exciting music that is genuinely unique.
Led by Colombian pianist Ivan Guevara and British cellist / conductor Graham Walker, Classico Latino combine a heady mix of piano, cello, violin, vocals, bass and percussion, performed by a group of musicians with a truly global reach.
Having released five studio albums to critical acclaim, as well as entertaining audiences all over the world from the iconic Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London to the foothills of the Colombian Andes, Classico Latino now return with their best work to date.
Drawing on the familiar Bolero and Tango, as well as lesser-known rhythms such as the Pasillo and Joropo, Classico Latino's new album displays the amazingly varied stories and emotions of Latin America.
'Salsa Classics' features collaborations with Colombian multi-instrumentalist and salsa legend Julio Ernesto Estrada aka 'Fruko,' a behemoth of the international salsa scene and an awe inspiring musician, who adds much creativity and authenticity to the project.
The recording also features Cuban born violinist Omar Puente, a highly skilled virtuoso with a plethora of achievements, including being first violin with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, touring with Buena Vista's Ruben Gonzales and performing with high profile figures across a truly diverse range of genres, including John Williams, Jools Holland, and Wynton Marsalis, to name just a few.
