Nils Anders Mortensen, Engegård Quartet
Description
The combination of piano with string quartet was recognised as a viable ensemble relatively late, no outstanding work of this type appearing until Schumann's Piano Quintet of 1842. Subsequent composers – notably Brahms, Dvo 345;ák, Franck, Fauré, Elgar and Shostakovich – have added further fine works to the repertoire, some of which, like Schumann's, are now regarded as classics.
On this recording, Norwegian pianist Nils Anders Mortensen, together with the Engegård Quartet, presents us with Schumann's Piano Quintet Op. 44 and Piano Quartet, Op. 47.
