Description
In this very personal recording, Julius Berger (violoncello) and Annette Schavan (recitation) combine Ernest Bloch's music with readings from the Psalms. The Book of Psalms is a common treasure for Jews and Christians to pray and reflect on what shapes our lives. Julius Berger traces the origin of the Greek word Psalmos as a song with string accompaniment. The psalms were also always an important source of inspiration for Bloch; in this recording, his works enter into direct dialog with selected psalm recitations.
