Description
Romuald Twardowski's choral music occupies a distinctive place in twentieth-century Polish music, combining the expressive power of sacred tradition with a vivid, contemporary musical language. This recording brings together works from different periods of his long career, revealing the richness and individuality of a composer whose choral output numbered more than 120 works. Twardowski worked in many genres with his choral music being both sacred and secular. He composed sacred music for the Catholic church, but also for the Orthodox Church specifically the Chamber Choir Kyiv. His musical style has been called "developed neoclassicism", and his choral works as "very varied and, although moderately modern, very accessible music". This new recording is performed a cappella by the Choir of the Lodz Grand Theatre under Rafal Wiecha. Rooted in the musical traditions of both Catholic and Orthodox cultures, Twardowski's music balances clarity, colour and spiritual depth, creating a compelling portrait of one of Poland's most original voices in choral music.
