This new release from LAWO Classics presents Stravinsky's Suite Italienne, Poulenc's Cello Sonata and Debussy's Cellos Sonata in D Minor, in performances by award winning cellist Amalie Stalheim and former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Christian Ihle Hadland. Amalie Stalheim (b. 1993) is known for her technical brilliance, personal expression and unique tone and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Stalheim has been recognised as a BBC Music Magazine Rising Star.
Christian Ihle Hadland has established himself as a true craftsman of the piano, a musician whose delicate, refined playing and individual touch have led him to the most prestigious stages in the world. Christian came to international attention in 2011 as a BBC New Generation Artist. As an NGA he performed with all four of the BBC's symphony orchestras and broadcast solo and chamber recitals for the corporation in London. He also made his debut at the BBC Proms in London where he was praised by critics for his 'pearly' and 'otherwordly' sound.
"They are especially strong advocates of Poulenc's Cello Sonata, admirably negotiating the rapid changes of direction in the outer movements, the first flitting moth-like between ideas and the last searching for resolution […]. There is also much to admire in the Debussy, with a wonderful singing tone in the more lyrical moments and a wryly whimsical central Sérénade." – BBC Music Magazine (4 STARS)
"The cellist captures something of this whimsy when playing both pizzicato and arco. There is a soaring exultation in Stalheim's playing in the finale [Debussy] which sets the seal on an excellent and well-recorded recital." – MusicWeb International
