Guitarist Philip Catherine has been at the forefront of the European jazz scene since the 1960's. Born in England, but raised in Belgium, he is one of the most versatile performers on his instrument and has played and recorded with artists as different as Chet Baker, Stéphane Grappelli, Charles Mingus and the rock band Focus.
'Plays Cole Porter' sees the guitarist pay tribute to the prolific composer and lyricist whose songs have been recorded by such artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. This excellent album is a collection of Catherine's favourite Cole Porter songs, some well known, others not, but which compliment each other beautifully. Joining the leader on this tasteful outing are pianist Karel Boehlee, bassist Philippe Aerts, and drummer Martijn Vink.
