Description
Batik is a group that originated from the duo which drummer Joost Lijbaart and pianist (and ECM recording artist) Wolfert Brederode started in 2005. Significant to the group sound is the blending of music into one sound, the instruments itself are subordinate to the whole.
The music is inspired by the work of the artist Claudy Jongstra, who creates art pieces and architectural installations from hand felted material. Batik fuses an emphasis on joint improvisation together with these other contemporary influences to create unique jazz soundscapes.
