Description
Jugendlieder is a major body of lieder written by Alban Berg between 1901 and 1908. These powerful and poetic songs are performed by mezzo soprano Julia Bentley and her accompanist Kuang-Hao Huang. This album was recorded in 2014.
The Jugendlieder (early songs), were composed whilst Alban Berg was still a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg and chart the young composer's musical journey from late Romantic love songs to songs written in the modern idiom.
Julia Bentley has performed widely in both opera and lieder. She has been praised by the New York Times for her "rich sound and deep expressivity."
