    For reasons more to do with sales tactics than anything else, the three violin sonatas Op. 30 by Johann Baptist Vanhal (1739-1813), published in Vienna in 1808, are described on the title page as piano sonatas with violin accompaniment, as their melodic substance is divided more or less equally between the two instruments. Marco Pedrona and Matteo Bogazzi present them here as charming and original works from the late Viennese Classical period, which, in addition to Clementi's piano style, already anticipate the structural and melodic characteristics of early Schubert.
