Born in rural Alabama, Louisiana Red was a huge man with a slow, deliberate manner. He was a brilliant songwriter who used the tragedies of his own life experiences to produce a vivid, visceral blues style. His technique on slide-guitar harked back to the Delta, but he played the Harmonica and finger-style electric guitar too, and often moved himself to tears with his passionate vocal delivery. It's surprising that he was not better known, as he performed almost continuously for more than fifty years and played with a host of legendary figures.
'The Lowdown Back Porch Blues' was Red's 1962 debut album. Viewed by many as his finest out of an impressive discography of some 50 or so albums, this special remastered collector's edition is released after a long absence from the catalogue. AS a bonus, it includes 10 additional tracks, including alternate takes and hard-to-find sides from the period.
