Description
Former Gospel singer Joe Henderson, a man blessed with a wonderfully sonorous bass voice, started his solo career in 1961 and registered a million-selling, crossover R&B/Pop hit with his second 45, the classy, Brook Benton-like 'Snap Your Fingers'. He also charted with 'Baby Don't Leave Me', 'Big Love' and 'The Searching Is Over', while his sole LP, titled after his huge hit, also made the US album charts.
All are included on this compilation, which is built around that LP. Included as bonus tracks are a single and LP which he recorded as a member of the celebrated Gospel group, The Fairfield Four, prior to his solo career. This body of work has never previously been compiled thus and with the exception of his signature hit, Henderson's entire solo recorded output is new to the digital format.
Although Joe looked to be on the verge of a major career as a Soul singer he died unexpectedly in 1964, at the age of only 27, following a heart attack.
