Because of their inherent structural simplicity, his songs have been covered by a wide array of artists, and form one of the essential building blocks of the blues canon. With his laid-back, slurred singing style stretched over a lazy, easy boogie rhythm, and punctuated by short runs on his racked harmonica, Reed brought a kind of hushed, unhurried urgency to everything he recorded. This quintessential release features two of his classic albums, originally issued by the Vee-Jay label: Rockin' with Reed (1959) and his debut I'm Jimmy Reed (1958). Due to the success of his earlier singles, Reed was already an established artist at the peak of his abilities when these LPs were recorded. Both albums have been remastered and packaged together in this special collector's edition, which also contains 6 bonus tracks from the same period. Included here are such well-known hits as Bright Lights, Big City, Big Boss Man, and Hush Hush. -
