Description
The members of all-star family jazz band the 3 Cohens - featuring Anat Cohen (clarinet), Avishai Cohen (trumpet) and Yuval Cohen (soprano saxophone) - have always taken time out from their ever-burgeoning careers as soloists and bandleaders to reconvene for music-making together. The siblings developed a deep musical bond growing up in Tel Aviv, with improvisational interplay becoming second nature together. The New York Times enthused over their "family sound" and "intuitive counterpoint".
In 2022 The 3 Cohens reunited for a collaborative concert with Germany's lauded WDR Big Band; The timing of the concert, held soon after public events resumed following the pandemic, added to the special feeling; "It was still a relatively new thing to be playing for a live audience again, but the lovely hall there in Koln was packed," Anat recalls.
Anat has garnered multiple Grammy Award nominations, both for her widely praised collaborations in Brazilian music and her second tentet album, 'Triple Helix'.
Avishai has become one of ECM's leading artists with six intimately expressive albums on the famed German label, adding to his previous set of superb Anzic releases. His latest ECM album was 'Ashes to Gold', a quartet release from 2024.
Yuval, an award-winning saxophonist and educator in Israel, expanded his discography with his own ECM album 'Winter Poems' released in February of this year (2025).
"To the ranks of the Heaths of Philadelphia, the Joneses of Detroit and the Marsalises of New Orleans, fans can now add the 3 Cohens of Tel Aviv." - All About Jazz
