First and foremost, Stan Kenton was an innovator. He earned his place in the Jazz Pantheon through new music, often his own compositions. However, in dance halls or on radio, it was not realistic to play only unfamiliar music so throughout his career, Kenton's repertoire was mixed with standards familiar to audiences. If arrangements were sometimes startling, that was the Kenton style.
This Jasmine programme presents a selection of such standards, many arranged by Pete Rugolo. 23 tracks playing a very generous 75 minutes.
