Description
This seventy minute CD of orchestral music composed by Tim Garland features The Northern Sinfonia Orchestra with Garland and the legendary Chick Corea as soloists. 'The Mystery' integrates new orchestral music with the contemporary jazz world in a way seldom achieved, the jazz and modern-classical elements being present in equal measure.
Garland's work as orchestral composer is being increasingly recognised after successful performances of his saxophone concerto, his piano concerto (commissioned by The Northern Sinfonia), and an overture specially commissioned by the LSO which was performed to an ecstatic full-house audience at London's Barbican centre in February 2006. In May 2006 Garland's 'Jubilate Deo' was performed by The Choir of Westminster Abbey and his acclaimed trio Acoustic Triangle. Tim has just completed a three year post as Composer-In-Residence at Newcastle University, in close alliance with the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra. His Three For Thelonius composition, which is featured on this album (the tracks 'Trinkle Tinkle', 'Ruby My Dear', and 'Evidence'), has been nominated for the 2006 British Composers' Award.
Tim collected the Radio 3 Jazz Innovations Award at the 2006 BBC Jazz Awards for his CD 'If The Sea Replied'. He continues to tour the world as saxophone soloist with Chick Corea, Acoustic Triangle and his own groups. He has performed with Gary Burton, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford, Geoff Keezer, Ralph Towner, Ronnie Scott, John Dankworth, Airto Moriera and Hubert Laws.
