Description
Arthur Rubinstein's last concert in Poland: a unique album from The Fryderyk Chopin Institute. Renowned for his performances and recordings of Chopin's oeuvre, Arthur Rubinstein performed in Poland for the last time in his hometown of Lodz, in 1975.
The programme featured Chopin's F minor and Beethoven's E flat major Concertos with the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Henryk Czyz. As an encore, Rubinstein played the Chopin Polonaise in A flat major, with which he bid farewell to his homeland and home town. In this way, he also closed an extraordinarily important chapter in the history of Polish pianism.
Half a century later, The Fryderyk Chopin Institute are proud to present this special two-disc archival concert recording in order to recall those extraordinary moments of elation and artistic emotion.
"He's 88, still every inch the noble aristocratic pianist, showing such stamina in his beloved Chopin F Minor Concerto" – BBC Radio 3, Record Review (Andrew McGregor)
"Both Beethoven's Fifth and Chopin's Second Piano Concerti contain everything that makes up the pianist's great art – the romantic breath, the nobility, the brilliant and extremely clear sound and the tasteful, always finely controlled expressiveness." – Pizzicato ****
