Description
Tape collage, extended saxophone improvisations, and classic synthesis techniques are paired with medium-pushing algorithmic composition on The Great Outdoors, the second solo record in as many years by Baltimore based composer Andrew Bernstein. Out March 2016 on Ehse Records, The Great Outdoors includes an album of music and a suite of generative sound art websites that pushes at the edges of what an album can be. As a member of experimental rock quartet Horse Lords, Bernstein provides counterpoint in the form of spiraling saxophone figures and unhinged polyrhythmic percussion. As a solo artist, these inclinations coalesce into distinct compositions informed by musique concrate, free jazz, academic computer music, and minimalist compositon.
